Welcome to Albany Research Institute, a non-profit research corporation based in Albany, NY. We were established in 1989 as a result of legislation passed by Congress that allowed VA medical centers to establish state-chartered non-profit research organizations. Our purpose is to provide a flexible funding mechanism that allows non-VA funding for research projects approved by the VA. We administer a wide range of research activities, including basic and applied biomedical research, clinical trials, behavioral research, neural engineering, data science, and artificial intelligence. Our partnership with the VA allows us to administer non-VA appropriated funds in support of the research mission of the affiliated VA healthcare system.
